Our History - Teen Challenge Newport Print E-mail

Teen Challenge came to Newport, South Wales in May 1990 as part of Teen Challenge UK, with the support of two key ministers of the time Granville Johnson (Newport Gateway Church), Roystone Evans (Duckpool Road Baptist), and local trustees and a bunch of street support workers it was birthed. It's first location was as a late night coffee shop next to the Kings Church, where street teams would walk the streets and invite people back for a coffee and chat. The coffee shop was manned by dedicated and faithful people of all ages, and different churches in the area - in the early days Teen Challenge Newport was open late night on Friday and Saturday's. Previous Teen Challenge Newport - Leaders like Roystone, Granville, John Church, Lynn Turner, Roger Keyes, and others.. have always been rooted to the core of Teen Challenges mission. For over the past decade Caroline Johnson has lead and still leads today.

Over the years it has been involved in School Projects, Bus Outreach, Counselling, Befriending, Networking.
