About Newport Night ShelterIn Newport there is a need for emergency accommodation for rough sleepers whilst long term solutions are being sought. The night shelter fills in the gap in providing safety and refuge for those who do not have the option of temporary or permanent accommodation and continue to struggle with their cycle of homelessness and addiction. Our vision is to offer a safe, warm and secure place that is welcoming to anyone over the age of 18 who otherwise would be forced to sleep rough on the streets of Newport. How does it work? Newport Night Shelter is a grass-roots project run by volunteers from across Newport and surrounding areas. We offer a warm welcome, hot supper, bed and breakfast in a safe environment to 12 homeless guests. The shelter operates in a different church building each night of the week, with a local team of volunteers taking responsibility for each night. In all, 14 churches are used and over 300 volunteers work in them over a period of 4 months. Each Guest that stays at the shelter receives a large bag with their name on and bedding inside. This bag, along with their belongings is transferred from one shelter to the next ready for the next nights stay. Last Year 93 Guests were referred to the shelter
